Fundiswa Zwane fired for wanting a pay raise
Actress Fundiswa Zwane who plays Mandonsela in the drama series Imbewu which airs on ETV has been allegedly fired. Her crime asking for a salary increase.
Isolezwe reports that Fundiswa’s manager asked for a salary increase on her behalf but she was fired instead. The actress was shocked as she had not expected to be let go from the production at all. It is rumoured she will be replaced by Brenda Mhlongo. An inside source said Fundiswa was informed by the others that she would be let go and Brenda would take her place. A source said, “She was said to be very surprised as she was still determined to keep on acting but wanted a bit more money. Money matters are a problem in this games Tony has left because he was not satisfied with his salary. Siyabonga Thwala had already started the story of being a part of the sport but that was not always the case for the money. Brenda is said to have already started shooting and will be on our screens as Mandonsela before you know it. The worst part being they never told her upfront they were firing her. About a year ago, Sunday Sun reported that Imbewu: The seed’s producers decided that their staff was earning ‘too much’ and to cut their salaries by half.
Viewers of the show also showed their disdain for the move made by ETV. With many thinking the actress could not be replaced by anyone who could portray Mandonsela’s character as well as her. Some even suggested scrapping the character of Mandonsela altogether rather than replace Fundiswa.
However ETV maintains that both they and the actress came to a mutual agreement on her leaving the drama. ETV managing director Marlon Davids had nothing but good to say about the actress, “The past two years have served as a true testament to who Fundi is, a strong talent in the South African TV industry.”
