No Idols SA for 2020
Another thing the Covid-19 pandemic has robbed us of is great entertainment. Many shows have paused production and closed their doors till the pandemic is over or lockdown regulations have relaxed. One of these shows is the most watched and loved by many Idols SA.
But the pandemic might not be the only reason why there will be no Idols this year. There are inside sources that have shared that there are misunderstandings between M-Net and Idols SA producers. The disagreements were so major no selection was made for the top 16of the competition. “The auditions were done and the Top 16 should have been selected by now, like every year. But this year, it’s not clear whats going on. All we have seen are back to back meetings. I feel for those who went for auditions. I believe they want to know if they made it to top 16. Remember most talented people depend on this competition for their dreams to come true,” the insider said.
Another insider who spoke to the SunTeam said, “There had been numerous meetings between the producers and M-Net. By the looks of things, Idols SA won’t be continued this year.” If things were going on as normal, the Top 16contestants would have been announced to SA by now. The coronavirus outbreak the further complicated the problem.
“Producers are failing to come up with ways to work around this outbreak. I mean lockdown regulations contribute to the competition not aired because of the crew involved is having a hard time coming up with a plan. It might be easier for other shows to continue working during this critical time, but not for a music competition show. They use the same microphones and that could put them at the risk of infection,” the insider said.
The PR for Idols SA, Irvin Pooe could not be reached for comment. Viewers will surely miss Randall’s sharp tongue, Somizi’s bubbly personality and Unathi’s infectious laugh.
