Benjamin Dube High Praise Centre doors to remain closed
Reverend and musician Benjamin Dube insists on keeping the doors of his church High Praise Centre doors closed even though level 3 lockdown regulations now allow churches to operate.
Beginning on June 1, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that churches could resume services under level 3 lockdown. Of course strict precautions would have to be undertaken like, not more than 50 people per service, attendees should practice social distancing and wear masks at all times and sanitisation of the entire building before and after lockdown.
The announcement caused unrest as different people had different views about the president’s decision. And how the churches would be monitored to show adherence. Several churches like High Praise Centres have decided to not resume services until there is a better handle on the virus for the sake of their attendees.
Reverend Dube uploaded a video on Instagram to inform people of his decision to keep his doors closed and why. “Though the government has given churches the opportunity to assemble and be together, under strict conditions, High Praise Centre is not going to open our doors for everyone to come in. we are going to stay closed until level 2, if level 2 allows us to open to everyone. If it is level 1 that allows us to open for everyone, we will consider opening at level 1,” he said. It seems he is most concerned about the seclusion of others that letting only 50 attend a service would entail.
He continued saying, “By virtue of the number of congregants we have, we are not able to open for only 50 people maximum. We have taken this decision to keep the church closed until everyone is allowed to come.”
However he will still stream services online each week so his church members are not left without spiritual guidance during this time.
