As beloved as the Fergusons are, rumours have always circled around about them being horrible bosses. As the stories increase in number from different actors and actresses about unfair treatment suffered at their hands, the disbelief decreases. This time it’s why they fired Dineo Langa.
Actress Dineo Langa has allegedly been fired from The Queen, a production she has been with since its inception in 2016. Twitter streets are filled with talk about the power couple, Connie and Shona Ferguson after the news leaked of Dineo’s dismissal. Her offence: she asked for a 3 month leave to shoot with another production. The leave was granted but still the actress was fired through an email during the lockdown, informing her not to come back to work after the lockdown ended. However it is suspected that the real reason she was fired is because she is close to Rami Chuene, an actress who was fired from The Queen and spoke out against the couple’s treatment of actors and actresses.
A close source to Dineo revealed that Dineo was distraught over being fired given that she had secured her leave first. The close source said, “She is distraught. She thought the Fergusons are family. More than just losing a job, she feels a sense of betrayal because when she asked for the time off they agreed. Then boom, the letter of severance arrived during lockdown.”
Lauren Neil, the Queen’s showrunner confirmed that Langa was indeed granted leave for 3 months but this meant the script had to be rewritten to accommodate that. She said in a message to Sunday World, “she was scheduled to return in April but due to the lockdown, everything changed. All cast and crew contacts end at the end of May.”
Other actors and actresses that played key roles but were fired and cried foul afterwards include Rami Chuene, SK Khoza and Mo Setumo. Just recently Zenande Mfenyane had to leave the show, because she fell pregnant and the producers could not fit in her pregnancy in the storyline. Cindy Mahlangu for reasons unknown is allegedly leaving the show for reasons unknown. All these stories make the Fergusons look like they are exploitive bosses.
