Actor Siyabonga Thwala Moves On To Imbewu

Isibaya actor Siyabonga Thwala is the newest member of Imbewu. Thwala had the role of Mpiyakhe Zungu in Isibaya. The reason of departure is rumoured to be his diva tendencies. He allegedly demanded an increase plus a script change which led to him being placed on special leave. This was leaked by two insiders who told a media source but did not want to be identified for fear of victimization.

Various sources have perpetuated this rumour. Another source who is employed as a crew member by Bomb shelter which produces the show Isibaya said that Thwala had hinted at being happy to be a member of Imbewu. Hard to believe considering Isibaya is one of Mzansi Magic’s biggest telenovela. The crew member said, “I heard this information but as you know, I’m not at liberty to be talking about this.”

The script editor and radio producer also announced the same news via a Facebook post. Nkosi wrote, “Siyabonga Thwala will be joining Imbewu on Etv. You won’t find this report everywhere else.” Nkosi was not available for further comments.

Isibaya producer Desiree Markgaaf whilst not denying this rumour, instead said Thwala was still part of Isibaya but was not available to shoot because he lives in Kwazulu-Natal. “Mr Thwala has not left the show, however, due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, he is not currently shooting as he and his family are KZN-based therefore, he cannot travel up and down like he usually does,” he said. Because of this, “we will be filming with the Johannesburg cast and crew, there are many other wonderful stories and characters,” he finished.

At the time of publication Thwala was not available for comment. Marlon Davis, Etv managing director did not confirm or deny whether Siyabonga was joining Imbewu but instead pulled the confidentiality card. “Kindly note that the details of the upcoming storyline are confidential to the production,” Marlon said.

Isibaya also seems to be bleeding actors left right and centre. Last month it lost actresses Nomzamo Mbatha and Jessica Nkosi. As well as Mzansi Ngubane to Mzansi Magic’s The Queen.
